Botanical Art: Spring Flowers in Watercolour

Botanical Art: Spring Flowers in Watercolour

Saturday 9 November 2019 with Narelle Thomas 5 hours (including lunch) 10am to 3pm.

We are thrilled to again have the amazing Narelle Thomas, Botanical Artist, lead this workshop at Tambea. Narelle is a well known botanical artist and teacher. She has enjoyed a long and successful career in photography and as an exhibiting watercolourist, and has exhibited her botanical illustrations both locally and internationally, since 2000. Most recently Narelle was invited to exhibit at the annual Botanica Exhibition held at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney, where her stunning watercolour Rosa Grimaldi was awarded ‘Director’s Choice’.

This workshop, held in a beautiful Spring garden setting at Tambea, is the perfect introduction to watercolour or, if you have some experience, a great way to develop your skills under Narelle’s close guidance and tailored assistance.

We start by creating study sketches of flowers in pencil with the assistance of directed light, where you will learn how to visually dissect your botanical subject. Narelle will then guide you through the process of working in watercolours, using a limited palette of six colours. The class will cover colour mixing, techniques for washes, glazes, drybrush work and how to create detail.

Narelle makes botanical art accessible and you will surprise yourself with the work you can produce by the close of the afternoon, and how your eye can appreciate the nuances of the botanical subject before you,

This workshop is limited to a small group so you will each have the full benefit of Narelle Thomas’ expert tuition. We provide a light lunch and refreshments throughout. Narelle will also supply participants with a pack containing a watercolour travel palette, six watercolours, brush, watercolour paper and 2H pencil.

This workshop promises to be an amazing experience for participants. It is suitable for those who have previously attended one of Narelle’s workshops, as well as someone with absolutely no experience at all.
